Harmony Wildlife appreciates each of our volunteers so much and would like to share how awesome they are with you! This month, we are pleased to introduce Lorena R.
Originally from El Paso, Texas. Lorena moved to Nashville in 2019 to work as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Vanderbilt. When she's not at work or helping at Harmony Wildlife, she is restoring biodiversity at her with native gardening and honing her pottery skills at Old School Pottery Farm.
Lorena has 11 pets, including five guinea pigs, four rabbits, a chinchilla and a cat. (All rescues!) She is hoping to soon get her rabies vaccine so she can work with rabies vector species.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I have met so many wonderful friends through volunteering and sharing in the joy of making a difference for wildlife in Tennessee.
What made you interested in local wildlife?
After I moved to Nashville, I was quickly made aware of the consequences of rapid expansion in the city and destruction of habitats. I wanted to turn my grief over what I was witnessing into action by helping animals hurt in the process and help people coexist with wildlife.
What is your favorite Tennessee native animal and which would you be?
I love the eastern box turtle because they are so resilient but not afraid to be a little silly. I would be a little brown bat and get to gossip with all the bats.
