2002 Animals
Spring 2002 Arrivals
(Animals are listed chronologically by date of admission, oldest to most recent.)
-- White-tailed Fawn, current count at 5 and growing, admissions vary from dog attack victims to orphans, but all require the same basic care and feeding -- Harmony's highest admission rate of all the animals we treat
-- Great Horned Owl, admitted with severe head injuries, as well as eye and wing injuries, recovered from head injury and had surgery for broken wing on 3/2/02, much improved and moved outside 4/8/02, fully recovered and released 5/16/02
-- Redtailed Hawk, adult admitted for head and wing injuries, x-rays show no break, getting rest and rehab, awaiting release
-- Sparrow, fledgling orphaned on 4/9/02, eating seeds and insects, released 4/15/02
-- Great Horned Owl, fledgling about 6-8 weeks old, very aggressive (which is good)
-- Redtailed Hawk, adult admitted after being found injured 4/9/02, no broken bones but missing lots of flight feathers, stayed at HWRC while awaiting feather regrowth, ready for release
-- Opossums, adult mother and two babies, mother had been attacked but didn't need surgery, recovering well and now feeding her own and her adopted babies (see below)
-- Nine baby opossums, orphaned, accepted by the adult mother opossum admitted a few days earlier and now nursing happily with her -- yeah!
-- Cedar Waxwing, broken coracoid (a small bone near the collarbone), requires R & R
-- Pigeon, gunshot wound requiring orthopedic surgery, in recovery, but condition complicated because finder kept animal for a week before bringing to HWRC -- please remember to follow the directions in our Rules of Rescue anytime you discover an animal in need
-- Dove, squab (baby), caught by cat, required tube feeding until old enough to self-feed, awaiting release
-- Three raccoons, approximately two weeks old, eyes still closed, require intensive care including tube feeding every 4-5 hours
-- Robin, adult, needed R & R, awaiting release
-- Two dove squabs, received feeding and care, now awaiting release
-- Two bluebird nestlings, fed and cared for, all grown up and ready for release
-- Raccoon, baby receiving appropriate feeding and care until big rnough for release
-- Screech Owl, fledgling, feeding and waiting for growth
-- Two robins, fledglings, feeding and waiting for appropriate growth before release
-- Great Blue Heron, fledgling, admitted with multiple injuries and receiving critical care
