2001 Animals
Autumn 2001 Arrivals
(Animals are listed chronologically by date of admission, oldest to most recent.)
-- Nine baby squirrels of various ages, some required intensive care including feeding with eyedropper every 3-4 hours, now all self-feeding and will be moved to outside cages in 2-3 weeks
-- Pigeon, admitted with broken leg and wing, surgery performed to place pins in both breaks, received daily range of motion physical therapy exercises for the broken wing, released at site of origin on 12/3/01
-- Two flying squirrels admitted, stayed through winter, moved outside 4/9/02 and released 4/11/02
-- Finch, admitted for viral illness affecting its eyes, recuperated well and released on 10/31/01
-- Eastern Screech Owl, admitted for eye injury after being hit by a car, recovered completely and released 1/27/02
-- Canadian Goose, admitted for fractured leg, had surgery to place pins in the break, pins to be removed during week of 12/10/01 in preparation for move outside, doing quite well -- very vocal and a good eater, recovered completely as of 1/7/02, released 1/9/02
-- Redtailed Hawk, adult admitted for eye and leg injuries, received antibiotics and worked on weight gain, moved outside 12/9/01, eating independently, leg fracture healed, no significant change in eye
Summer 2001 Arrivals
(The animal below arrived last summer and was only recently released.)
-- Great Horned Owl, admitted for eye injury from barbed wire fence, surgery was performed to repair the eyelid, kept at HWRC to ensure there will be no complications of the eye with time, re-assessed as stable on 1/7/02 and released 3/2/02
Spring 2001 Arrivals
(The animal below arrived last spring and was only recently released.)
-- Weasel, orphaned as a baby and still growing stronger, wintered over at HWRC, making successful live kills, released 4/15/02
