Eastern Grey Squirrels
The two Eastern Grey Squirrels pictured here are 2-3 weeks old. They will not open their eyes until six weeks of age, and they must be carefully fed with a syringe every 3-4 hours.
Eastern Grey Squirrels are quite common in Tennessee and are especially active in the morning and evening. Subsisting on a variety of nuts, the squirrel buries each nut it finds in a new location, usually no deeper than 1/4" beneath the surface. Experiements have shown that they find buried nuts using their remarkable sense of smell, capable of detecting nuts even under a foot of snow.
