American Osprey
The American Osprey pictured here is the only one ever admitted to Harmony Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. This raptor, or bird of prey, only eats fish. In the wild it searches for fish by flying and hovering over the water. When prey is spotted, it dives steeply into the water, then rises again quickly with its catch in its claws.
The Osprey's numbers declined in the mid-twentieth century, but have since resurged due to conservation efforts. They can now be found nesting in many parts of the country in which they were once scarce.
