Red-Tailed Hawk
The Red-Tailed Hawk pictured here is Sadie, a resident at Harmony Wildlife Rehabilitation Center since 1994. When a serious wing injury left her permanently unable to fly, HWRC's founder decided to keep her as an educational bird because of her disposition. Since then, Sadie has made several public appearances to assist with Harmony's community education program.
Sadie lives at HWRC because the only alternative was to euthanize this beautiful bird, now unable to survive in the wild. Although Sadie's story is heartwarming, it is important to note that she is also an exception to the rule at HWRC: to rehabilitate and release wild animals with as little human contact as possible. And remember, never attempt to keep a wild animal as a pet. Keeping Sadie in captivity requires extensive knowledge, training in her handling, and special State and Federal licenses.
