White-Tailed Deer fawn are the most common visitors at HWRC. About thirty fawn are admitted every season, beginning in May, with final releases in October. Harmony has numerous indoor cages and two outdoor deer runs to accomodate the numerous fawn referred here each year, but at the height of the season we are still forced to turn some away.
You can do something to help reduce the number of fawn that wind up in Harmony's care. Some fawn are orphaned or injured by dogs, but many are mistakenly "kidnapped" by humans. Please read the section about deer and their habits in the article "Natural Histories" to learn how to tell when a fawn needs help. Then pass the word along to your friends and neighbors -- white-tailed deer are a prime example of the valuable role community education plays in knowing when and how to help a species.
